San Jacinto

An overview of San Jacinto

The city of San Jacinto is located in Southern California.  It is named after Saint Hyacinth and is found at the north end of the San Jacinto Valley. The mountains associated with the valley are the San Jacinto Mountains. The city was founded in 1870, and incorporated on April 9, 1888, making it one of the oldest cities in Riverside County.Snow covered mountains at San JacintoThe area is rich in both Native American and Latino cultural history and is home to the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indians who own and operate the Soboba Casino, which is a large tourism draw.

The Anza Trail, one of the first European overland routes to California, named after Juan Bautista de Anza, crossed the valley in the 1770s.  Mission padres called the valley San Jacinto, and around 1820 they established an outpost here.
